Description

Coursework /NEA Authentication is offered through TeachAllAboutIt as a service for private candidates who may be applying to exam centres through home education or independent retakes.

I cover a several subjects for coursework /NEA authentication where I work individually with students over a number of months in order to supervise and authenticate individual coursework.

As an alternative, to attend a combined NEA & Exam preparation course for A level Computer Science, please enrol here.

Fees for subjects may vary based on the level of supervision required. This reflects the number of hours of supervised contact, marking, and moderation for required.

Marked coursework is completed by a qualified teacher in line with exam board guidelines and includes a second teacher providing moderation of marks. All marking & moderation is undertaken by qualified teachers with exam marking experience.

Which Subjects Do You Offer?

At present, I am able to offer a number of subjects including those that include a practical element.

OCR A Level Computer Science NEA

I am only able to offer NEA authentication for OCR A Level Computer Science as AQA do not currently accept private candidates for A level.

The OCR A Level Computer Science NEA is a long term programming project that is undertaken over a number of months. We strongly recommend that all students read carefully through the following documents to give them a clear idea of what is required as part of this project work:

For the majority of students, they will commence work on their NEA between April – July of the year before their final exams to allow for the time required to complete & supervise their project.

Coursework supervision is undertaken over a period of four to five individual online meetings which take place over a span of the full project – meetings are generally spaced apart to allow sufficient time for each phase of development. The final project deadline must be no later than February 28th of your final year. These will look similar to:

Meeting 1 : Introduction & identity checks

At this session you will meet with me as your tutor and a development area will be set up to enable me to remotely monitor progress on both your programming and documentation between sessions. Only work created after this point can be authenticated by me.

Within this session you will provide a project proposal and we will discuss suitability against the criteria given in the published OCR mark scheme.

Meeting 2 : Phase 1 (prototyping)

At this meeting, you will demonstrate your coded prototype and talk through the documentation that you have created for your project so far. By this stage, you should have written your Investigation section in full and have details for design, development, and testing for your prototype code.

Meeting 3 : Phase 2 (development)

At this meeting you will show your iterative development process by demonstrating your developed code alongside additional documentation for design, development, and testing of improvements beyond your prototype. Your code will be authenticated against a program code plagiarism checker and checks made that you have included citations for solutions identified online.

Meeting 4 : Documentation

At this final meeting, you will be given final feedback on your project so far and you will show your tutor your final draft documentation that shows:

  • A minimum of 3 phases of development
  • Full annotated code listings as part of your documentation
  • A full evaluation of your project using the published mark scheme as a foundation

The option of a 5th meeting is retained should an issue arise within a project and an extension to the standard deadline is required.

Feedback for project work will be within the exam board regulations and we encourage you to read my Academic Honesty Policy in full.

Creative iMedia (Games Design)

I am partnered with several private candidate centres to enable my students to study Games Design or Animation through the GCSE Equivalent course “Cambridge National Creative iMedia”. As this requires students to sit several coursework units over a number of months, I am able to offer this as a full online course with live lessons, or as a remotely accessed course with additional 1-2-1 coursework supervision.

The National Award in Creative iMedia is a GCSE equivalent qualification that involves the completion of three assessed units:

Unit 1 : Creative iMedia in the media industry (exam based)

Unit 2: Visual identity and digital graphics (coursework based)

Unit 3: Digital games OR Animation (coursework based)

If you would like to view a taster of this course, a recorded version of a lesson and full details are available for the Games Design Option and Animation Option.

Are you able to assist with UCAS References or Predicted Grades?

Any student who studies with me directly will automatically have predicted grades / UCAS references available to them. For students who are seeking a basic reference or predicted grade must complete the following requirements in line with my academic honesty policies. Any reference will state that this is an assessed grade as an external teacher:

  • Students must be registered with an exam centre.
  • Students will be provided with an area to upload and edit their UCAS statement with feedback and support from me as their tutor.
  • Students must submit their request for a private reference to UCAS (this will prompt UCAS to contact me).
  • For non-UCAS references, you must check that the college/organisation requiring the reference approves of this process.
  • Students must be able to sit 1 – 2 online mock exams using:
    • Screen sharing software
    • Webcam & Microphone
  • Students must be able to provide a minimum 2-3 additional pieces of work per subject as evidence of independent work.

Are you able to assist with tutor assessment for cancelled exams?

The hope if that this situation will not arise again. However, should teacher/tutor assessed grades be required in the future, in line with my academic honesty policies, I am able to offer tutor assessed grades on behalf of an exam centre where students can meet certain conditions:

  • Students must be registered with an exam centre
  • The exam centre must pre-approve our involvement with assessment*
  • Students must be able to sit 1 – 2 online mock exams using:
    • Screen sharing software
    • Webcam & Microphone
  • Students must be able to provide 4 – 5 additional pieces of work (dependent on exam board rules)

*If you are currently registered with Tutors & Exams, I am an approved partner

How long does coursework supervision take?

Coursework supervision is undertaken over a period of four individual meetings which take place over a span of a minimum of eight weeks. Where a practical element is required, you are advised to increase this time accordingly. If you are unsure, please email me before booking.

At your initial session, you will be required to show photo ID to allow us to confirm your identity. All work will be completed within a controlled file system to allow your tutor to monitor progress.

Where deadlines are missed, work within the controlled area will be submitted to the exam centre and treated as a final submission.

Where academic dishonesty is suspected, work will not be authenticated and will be reported to the relevent examining body.
