Coursework authentication is offered through TeachAllAboutIt as a service for private candidates who may be applying to exam centres through home education or independent retakes. We cover a number of subjects for coursework authentication where we work with students over a number of months in order to supervise and authenticate individual coursework.

Fees for subjects may vary based on the level of supervision required. This reflects the number of hours of contact and moderation for tutors.

All marked coursework is completed by specialist tutors in line with exam board guidelines and includes a second tutor providing moderation of marks.

Which Subjects Do You Offer?

At present, we are able to offer a number of subjects including those that include a practical element. A full list of currently offered subjects are shown below – for students eligible for our partner rates through Tutors & Exams, please select this when booking coursework authentication.

A Level Computer Science NEA

We are only able to offer NEA authentication for OCR A Level Computer Science as AQA do not currently accept private candidates for A level.

The OCR A Level Computer Science NEA is a long term programming project that is undertaken over a number of months. We strongly recommend that all students read carefully through the following documents to give them a clear idea of what is required as part of this project work:

For the majority of students, they will commence work on their NEA between April – July of the year before their final exams to allow for the time required to complete & supervise their project.

Coursework supervision is undertaken over a period of four to five individual Zoom meetings which take place over a span of the full project – meetings are generally spaced 1 month apart to allow sufficient time for each phase of development. The final project meeting must be no later than February 28th 2023. These will look similar to:

Meeting 1 : Introduction & identity checks

At this session you will meet with your tutor and a development area will be set up to enable your tutor to remotely monitor progress on both your programming and documentation between sessions. Only work created after this point can be authenticated by your tutor.

Within this session you will provide a project proposal and we will discuss suitability against the criteria given in the published OCR mark scheme.

Meeting 2 : Phase 1 (prototyping)

At this meeting, you will demonstrate your coded prototype and talk through the documentation that you have created for your project so far. By this stage, you should have written your Investigation section in full and have details for design, development, and testing for your prototype code.

Meeting 3 : Phase 2 (development)

At this meeting you will show your iterative development process by demonstrating your developed code alongside additional documentation for design, development, and testing of improvements beyond your prototype. Your code will be authenticated against a program code plagiarism checker and checks made that you have included citations for solutions identified online.

Meeting 4 : Documentation

At this final meeting, you will be given final feedback on your project so far and you will show your tutor your final draft documentation that shows:/

  • A minimum of 3 phases of development
  • Full annotated code listings as part of your documentation
  • A full evaluation of your project using the published mark scheme as a foundation

The option of a 5th meeting is retained should an issue arise within a project and an extension to the standard deadline is required.

Creative iMedia (Games Design)

We have recently partnered with several private candidate centres to enable our students to study Games Design through the GCSE Equivalent course “OCR iMedia”. As this requires students to sit several coursework units over a number of months, we are only able to offer this as part of our full online course.

The National Award in Creative iMedia is a GCSE equivalent qualification that involves the completion of three assessed units:

Unit 1 : Creative iMedia in the media industry (exam based)

Unit 2: Visual identity and digital graphics (coursework based)

Unit 3: Digital games (coursework based)

How long does coursework supervision take?

Coursework supervision is undertaken over a period of four individual meetings which take place over a span of a minimum of eight weeks. Where a practical element is required, you are advised to increase this time accordingly. If you are unsure, please email us before booking.

At your initial session, you will be required to show photo ID to allow us to confirm your identity. All work will be completed within a controlled file system to allow your tutor to monitor progress.

Where deadlines are missed, work within the controlled area will be submitted to the exam centre and treated as a final submission.

Where academic dishonesty is suspected, work will not be authenticated and will be reported to the relevent examining body.

How much does it cost?

Coursework supervision and marking is dependent on the subject and level. Our costs include tutor supervision for the duration of your NEA, formal marking and moderation by qualified teachers and submission to your exam centre. Mock Exam Invigilation & Marking

Private candidates may wish to access our services for mock exam marking and invigilation for a number of purposes.

Under usual circumstances, invigilated mock exams are not required prior to sitting an exam, but you may wish to complete these as part of evidence gathering should exams not go ahead. In these cases, we invigilate exams via Zoom using the agreed authentication process used in 2021.

Where you would prefer to sit the exam paper independently*, we are able to provide marking and feedback from qualified tutors with marking experience. Instead of simply marks, each paper will be returned to you with feedback on future improvements and exam technique.

*independently sat papers cannot be authenticated for exam grades
